Scary looking wells are often indicative of real terrors: sloppy work above the wellhead may point to the same quality issues down the hole, not to mention potential electrocution hazards, rodent infestations, or other problems that are often associated with improperly designed and constructed water systems.
Although these examples are perhaps entertaining; the damage to plumbing and fixtures, as well as health and human safety risks are not at all entertaining, and correcting them can often be more expensive than starting over.

This is a GWUDI Well with 14PPM of iron – had a pH of 5 indicating surface water intrusion and not properly constructed. No Well seal Vent or Test port on well, Control box and electrical mounted on the 1×6 leaned against a chlorine injection system that was oxidizing the iron in the water and causing the water to come out as orange. The oxidized iron was regularly stopping up equipment in people’s homes. This well was turned over by the developer to a Blue Ridge, GA water systems management company, who contracted the system’s construction in the first place.

We wonder how this Public Water Supply is tested per EPD guidelines, since there is no test tap on the well head.

In the (2) different examples of wells constructed by the same Blairsville,GA drilling contractor, you can see the tangle of wires, the 1×6 lassoed to the pressure tanks, and a heat lamp being used instead of a thermostatic fused heat tape.  Also, there are no vents or test taps.

Not only does this mess exemplify the type of work that drives folks to municipal water connections, it also points to why our industry is struggling: well drillers leave money on the table, choosing to install shoddy work at a lower price because that’s the only way they can figure out how to sell their work. It’s no wonder that so many family run well drilling businesses are disappearing.

It's scary what some people are willing to pay good money for...

This threatening tangle of wires in a damp, iron-stained wellhouse makes you wonder what's down the hole.
